Highlights from the 4th Multiplier Event in Katerini, Greece

On 7th April 2025, the EthAI Tour consortium held its 4th Multiplier Event in Katerini, Greece, hosted by TRAVEL2FIT at the LIDIA Education Center. Themed “Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence and Data in the Tourism Sector”, the event served as a pivotal platform for presenting the project's training content and the proposed ECVET profile shortly before its final release. The event brought together 51 participants, including VET providers and trainers, tourism association representatives, hoteliers, travel agents, consultants, students, and other stakeholders from the wider tourism and education sectors.

Objectives and Context

The main objectives of the event were to:

  •  Present the EthAI Tour Training Course structure and content.
  •  Share the ECVET profile of the “EthAI Tour Tourism Professional”.
  •  Collect feedback from stakeholders on the suitability, relevance, and applicability of the training content and course structure.

This event was particularly timely, aiming to validate the course framework while enhancing the transferability of project outcomes across different training and professional settings in the tourism industry. Following an opening welcome by Mr. Savvas Rogkotis, Managing Director of TRAVEL2FIT, the event featured contributions from prominent figures in the tourism and digital sectors:

  • Mr. Athanasios Salamanis, a senior software engineer at Oracle Greece, joined virtually to discuss the ethical challenges of AI from the developers’ perspective, reflecting on his experience in machine learning and big data analytics.
  • Ms. Ioanna Matouli, Project Manager at ATLANTIS Engineering and project coordinator of EthAI Tour, provided an in-depth presentation of the project’s vision, EU policy alignment, and its goals to deliver ethical, AI-focused vocational training in tourism.
  • Mr. Rogkotis then elaborated on the ECVET profile, training plan, and three-course structure:

  1.  Digitisation in Tourism
  2.  AI in Tourism
  3.  Ethical AI in Tourism

Special emphasis was placed on how these modules cater to upskilling and reskilling needs and reflect the current demands of the digital transition in tourism. The event benefited from the presence of key regional stakeholders such as:

Mr. Gregory Veidamenidis, President of the Pierian Room Rental Association and Board Member of POTAP (Pierian Organisation of Tourism Development and Promotion).

Mr. Vasileios Dimou, Managing Director of POTAP.

Ms. Dionisia Hatzihidiroglou, Director of the Lidia Education Center.

Their inputs highlighted the pressing need for curricula updates, innovative educational methodologies, and the ethical literacy of future tourism professionals in response to the expanding use of AI. The session concluded with an interactive case study analysing the legal and ethical legacy of AI-generated content, illustrated through the music industry’s landmark case involving “Ice Ice Baby” and “Under Pressure”. Participants were then invited to submit their feedback via QR code. Stakeholder feedback confirmed the transferability and high relevance of the training content. Many expressed interest in adopting the EthAI Tour training materials, notably the Lidia Education Centre, which committed to integrating the finalised modules into its tourism training offer. The event not only strengthened the visibility of EthAI Tour in Greece but also laid the groundwork for ongoing partnerships and future dissemination activities.
